German court throws out a patent claim in Nokia vs HTC lawsuit

Jumping off the HTC One bandwagon for a minute and putting on a collard shirt and tie we want to talk about a recent minor win for HTC in the courthouse. Yesterday, a judge in the District Court of Mannheim, Germany dismissed a patent claim that focuses on the way an Android phone accesses the Internet by way of the Google Play Store. Just to be clear as mud here, this patent lawsuit is really a big shot at Google's Android platform, but disguised as a direct shot at HTC since it is the motor burning the fuel.

Sony's 2014 Alpha Lineup Expected To Outshine Nikon And Canon [Rumor]

When it comes to cameras, the big names up there are Canon and Nikon, although it was several years ago when Sony introduced their Alpha series of DSLR cameras that Sony became one of the brands that many professional photographers started turning to. Perhaps on the surface it might seem that the competition is more or less on par with each other, but according to the folks at Sony Alpha Rumors, they have received a tip, or rather an opinion, from one of their "top sources" that come 2014, Sony plans to outshine the competition with their new Alpha lineup of cameras.

Intel developing headlights that make rain invisible (video)

Intel developing headlights that make rain invisible (video)

When computer hardware companies start getting involved with the development of automotive technologies, you can be sure some futuristic stuff is about to go down. How does invisible rain sound to you. Intel, along with Carnegie Mellon University, has come up with an idea for a new headlight system that can make rain seem to disappear from the driver's direct line of sight. According to CNET, the headlight uses a camera housed within the headlight assembly to detect rain (and presumably snow or hail) as it falls, and then it uses a processor to anticipate the path of the rain.

GM alters Akerson's pay mix because he may retire

General Motors has tweaked CEO Dan Akerson's pay mix to compensate for the possibility that the 64-year-old executive may retire before his long-term restricted stock vests in three years. Last year, Akerson saw his pay jump by 44 percent to $11.1 million, including $1.99 million in restricted stock as salary units, which vest immediately. Previously, Akerson was awarded around $2 million in restricted stock that could be forfeited on retirement. The change has led some analysts to believe Akerson may retire earlier than he had planned.

Renault teases followup concept to Twin'Z

When amateur spy shots first surfaced of a little blue hatchback roaring down the streets of Madrid, we thought it might be a Renault 5 revival – the sky blue city car did have a big "5" written on its doors, after all. Turns out, though, that it is the TwinFun, followup to the recently unveiled Twin'Z and the final offering in Renault's six-stage concept car cycle. Last year, Renault introduced the Alpine A110-50 concept at the Monaco Formula One Grand Prix; for 2013 it will be the TwinFun taking the spotlight.

Wii U Spring Update Arrives

Wii U Spring Update Arrives

It is said that if you are an owner of the Nintendo Wii U, chances are it is a console which would have done a whole lot to help increase your patience tolerance, especially since some games and even apps themselves might take their own sweet time, which would at times, require up to half a minute to load. Not only that, the downloaded software would also require a manual installation instead of an automated process that many of us are so used to these days. Good to know that Nintendo has listened to their fans, and has begun to roll out the first of two major updates which were specially issued to work around such problems.

While Henrik Fisker was in Washington, D.C. being grilled by Congress over government loans received by his former company, Fisker Automotive, Tesla co-founder Elon Musk was offering to give the California government money to help widen the 405 freeway. With delays and cost overruns plaguing the expansion of one of the busiest stretches of road in the US, Musk has already kicked in $50,000 to move the project along and is apparently willing to spend even more to get the job done.

Next-gen Holden HSV range coming next month

Holden Special Vehicles has something fun planned for next month. The company plans to yank back the sheets on the next generation of its HSV range, suitably named the Gen-F, on May 15. Holden had to do some quick stepping with its nomenclature this go around, and while names like "F Series" and "F1" dovetailed nicely with the 2013 VF Commodore, HSV had so skip those for obvious legal reasons. HSV has been trying to keep details close to the chest until the official unveil, but the Australian sleuths at carsguide.com.au have unearthed a wealth of interesting information already.

Confirmed: Vine for Android coming soon to the Google Play Store

As a social media junkie, Vine has been one of the few “must have” apps I've envied my iOS friends for having at their disposal. Never sure of the exact reason, the developers have seemingly shunned an Android port after the app was introduced on iOS back in January (it's now #1 in the iTunes store). For those unaware, Vine is an app that allows users to create small, 6 second video clips, pausing the video during recording as many times as they'd like. These clips can be easily shared to Twitter or Facebook, giving a small peek into someone's daily life.

BMW readying competition pack for M5, M6

According to Car and Driver, citing a report in BMW Blog, BMW will be offering performance upgrades – likely called the Competition package – for its M5 and M6 models (including the convertible and Gran Coupe versions of the M6). Both cars will continue to be offered with the normal 560-horsepower, 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engines, but this new performance pack is expected to add an additional 15 hp to the mix. No need to worry, however – the upgrades won't simply be limited to a small boost in power.

Remember the early days of web browsers/ Netscape Navigator proved to be hands-down the winner, the 800lbs gorilla among the crowd, but eventually, it resembled more of a dinosaur and went extinct rather than thrive like mammals. According to analysts over at Net Applications have come up with a rather startling and interesting conclusion, that around the world, Microsoft's different versions of Internet Explorer still remain the most widely used web browser among PC owners. StatCounter, however, says otherwise, touting that Google's Chrome is top dog in the world of PC web browsers.

Of course, we're talking about the Nintendo 3DS as the company announced it had sold a total of 13.95 million 3DS units and 49.61 million software units in the last fiscal year globally. T-Mobile's HTC One originally launched online April 19th, but if you wanted to buy the device in-person you had to wait until today. Well… today is here, so you should be able to waltz into a T-Mobile store and nab your very own HTC One. I say “should” because T-Mobile is only promising that you'll be able to find it in “select” stores. That means you'll want to call before you make the excited drive over to one of the carrier's retail locations.
On T-Mobile's new UNcarrier plan you can walk away with the device for a $99 down payment, and pay the device off in 24 monthly installments of $20.

In any case it seems that these stickers are not as readily available to all users yet and if you're using Facebook Messenger on your Android phone and you want to access these stickers, the folks at Droid Sans, a Thai-based Android community, have found a way to enable these stickers.

We speculated that it might be tied in to the Lumia 928's rumored launch, although it did not make sense since the Lumia 928 was rumored to be a Verizon exclusive. Either way it seems that Nokia themselves have revealed yet another teaser, this time with an image of a device (pictured above) which appears to be a handset with a possible QWERTY keyboard attached to it. Since the announcement is set for 7am GMT on the 24th of April, due to the time difference it is possible that it will already be the 25th of April in Malaysia.

The iPhone certainly took the smartphone world by storm since it was introduced back in 2007, and we have seen our fair share of iterations and next generation iPhones over the years. Well, moving 8 million units of smartphones is certainly no mean feat no matter how you look at it, considering how majority of the other smartphone manufacturers do not sell that many handsets, it seems even more incredible that recent reports claimed that Apple has returned exactly this number of iPhone 5 devices to the factory that manufactured it (i.e., these units never made it to the market because of quality control measures).

Verizon has removed at least some of the mystery surrounding the release date for its version of the Samsung Galaxy S4. The company took to Twitter to confirm that the Galaxy S4 wouldn't be arriving on its store shelves until May. Players like Sprint and T-Mobile have committed to late April for their respective launches, while AT&T's original shipping day of April 30th for the device is still on as far as we know. That would leave Verizon, US Cellular, C-Spire and Cricket Wireless as the lone folks who we don't yet have a concrete date for.
